Will you hold a valid Ontario Driver's Licence as of May 1, 2025

Most positions require a current valid and lawful Class G or G2 driver's license in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purposes of operating a City of Windsor Vehicle.

Will you have a current, valid and recognized Emergency or Standard CPR First Aid Certification as of May 1, 2025?

Applicants being hired must hold by date of hire, and maintain a current valid Emergency First-Aid/CPR Certificate (one day training) (standard also acceptable) obtained from a first aide WSIA Reg 1101 training provider recognized by the Workplace Safety and Insurance (WSIB) for the full term of employment.

Are you a full time post secondary student at an accredited University or Community College or equivalent institution?

To qualify for the Student Lottery, as of January 1st (of the hiring year) you MUST be a post secondary student attending a University or Community College on a full-time basis. Full-time attendance at school is defined as 4 or more courses per semester. To remain eligible you must complete the Winter semester on a full-time basis and be returning to full-time attendance in September of the hiring year.

Have you previously been employed by the Corporation of City of Windsor through the Student Lottery Program?

As per Council Resolution, students are eligible to be re-employed under the Summer Student Lottery Program for a maximum of three (3) summer work terms notwithstanding their draw in the lottery. Students eligible to be re-employed must meet all eligibility criteria and must re-submit their application to the Summer Student Lottery Program to be considered.

If you are successful in the lottery, you will perform work in one of the following areas. Please review the duties in each area and select all those that you are interested to work in. We will attempt to place you in one of the areas you selected, however, your offer of employment may be in an area you did not select and will depend on your lottery number and available positions in each area.

Parks
  • Janitorial duties such as cleaning public restrooms
  • Grass and weed cutting, and weed removal
  • Sports field and parks maintenance including litter pick up
  • Landscaping
  • Greenhouse work with flowers
  • Operating powered equipment and hand tools
  • Working in the right-of-way (alongside traffic)
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, sun, etc.)
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons and midnights, including weekends and holidays
  • Work involves heavy lifting
  • Other duties as assigned
Public Works
  • Set up and removal of traffic control devices
  • Removal of paint markings, painting roads, sidewalks and parking lots
  • Operating equipment and machinery such as buffer vehicles, grinders, strippers, and laser machines
  • Pothole patching on roadways
  • Maintenance of roadways, sidewalks, ditches, catch basins, etc.
  • Working in the right-of-way (alongside traffic)
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, sun, etc.)
  • Shifts may include days, afternoons and midnights, including weekends and holidays
  • Work involves heavy lifting
  • Other duties as assigned
Office Administration
  • Administrative and clerical work
  • General office functions such as typing, filing, photocopying, etc.
  • Responding to telephone inquiries
  • Working indoors in an office environment
  • Hours of work are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Work may involve moderate lifting
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Positions in this area are limited

Authorization

Should the Corporation wish to verify and receive comments about my employment, and/or medical record(s)/assessment(s), I hereby approve of this requirement and authorize any previous employer(s), current employer(s), medical clinic practitioner(s) to release to the Corporation any and all information regarding my employment and/or medical record(s)/assessment(s), as requested by the Corporation, and further I agree that no liability or damage shall accrue to the Corporation, previous employer(s), and/or medical clinic practitioner(s) as a consequence of this release of information.
